If your vehicle is currently registered in a state other than California and the registration renewal is due between March 16 and May 31, 2020, we are temporarily suspending the requirement to register that vehicle in California within 20 days of the due date. We are also waiving late fees and penalties during this time period.

Vehicle Registration. If your vehicle registration expired between March 16, 2020 and May 31, 2020 and is paid within 60 days of the original expiration date: → no late fees or penalties will be applied. If your registration expired between March 4, 2020 and June 30, 2020: → you do not need a current registration sticker on your vehicle and you cannot be cited for expired registration.
Just learned today that you can no longer get a free extension for smogging a vehicle. But, if you pay your registration fees, you can pay to get an extension for the smog – $50 for 60 days. You can also get a free one day “moving permit” to move the car to a dismantler or shop for repair.
Across the country, many states are extending the expiration date for up to 90 days on driver’s license, registration, and license plate renewals to reduce foot traffic at the DMV and thus.
